Cling To The Rock When Disaster Strikes

Overwhelmed by Disaster

What do you cling to when you are afraid?

Do you remember a time that you felt so overwhelmed with all the news of natural disasters, tragedies, and other devastating events? If you watch the daily news or continuously read news blogs and feeds, you get it all.

Many years ago, I decided to write about this very concept. Back then, the news seemed always bleak and did nothing to cheer me up. I realized that only life in God could help me to deal with negative events all around me.

Since then, I have survived blizzards, a huge tornado, several stock crashes and certain private tragedies and life-altering events. I feel even stronger in my faith in Christ than I did back when I wrote this song.

Cling To The Rock

Natural disasters come with catastrophes galore

And just when you think they’re over on the news they show some more

Volcanic eruptions of atom-splitting force

Are merely interruptions to my life within the Power Source

No matter what happens

I will cling to the Rock

You can shake me, you can quake me

I will take the shock

I cling to the Rock

Cling to the Rock

Quiet destruction wears down your soul

Silent devotion brings God’s control

Why am I trembling? My fear melts in love

the fire of the Spirit wind blows down from above

No matter what happens

I will cling to the Rock

You can shake me, you can quake me

I will take the shock

I cling to the Rock

Cling to the Rock

No matter the tragedy

My Comfort is here

I know He’s in control

And He draws me near

I cling to the Rock

Cling to the Rock

So “Who is this Rock?” you may ask. It is the Lord Jesus Christ, of course. Psalm 18:2a says,”The LORD (Yahweh) is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge.”(from the New Living Translation)

Someday soon, I will get some audio and maybe some video of this song so you know how it goes.

By the way, I am in the middle of writing 14 songs in 28 days as a part of FAWM, which is February Album Writing Month. If you want more information, go here. Just trying to kickstart myself back into the songwriting habit and create some groovy new tunes!

Please be sure to share this, like this, and consider making a comment.

Thanks. Guitar Shane.
